Someone must have tipped off our doves here in south Texas that it was opening weekend, or maybe they just saw the signs. Although our fields here at Rancho Las Norias were brimming with birds just a few weeks ago, activity suddenly died down over opening weekend. Maybe the atrocious wildfires that consumed hundreds of thousands of acres just north of us in central Texas spooked them away? Whatever happened we hope they come out of hiding soon. While we were out hunting this weekend we saw about a dozen dove out and about. Good news though is that dove season is open for another 35 days here in our area so hopefully things will turn around before then because we’re really looking forward to some Jalapeno Dove Poppers. And, worst case scenario at least deer season is just around the corner…
